How do you play awards bingo?

  1. Print a card for every guest before the broadcast: hit “New cards” until each couch seat has its own grid.
  2. Mark a square whenever its trope happens live. The center square is free: consider it the cold open before the title card, yours for showing up.
  3. Five in a row (across, down, or diagonal) shouts bingo, and there are no take-backs once it’s called. Winner picks the next movie night; runner-up refills the snack bowl.

What’s on the cards?

Sixty-four tropes, all aimed at the ritual: the play-off music, the envelope fumble, the montage nobody ordered. Ten from the deck:

  • Speech gets played off by the orchestra
  • Someone thanks their agent before their spouse
  • Standing ovation number three
  • Presenter banter dies on delivery
  • Camera finds the gracious-loser face
  • In Memoriam applause spike
  • Host bit runs a minute too long
  • Winner sprints the stairs
  • Teleprompter visibly betrays a presenter
  • Winner forgets the one name that mattered

The full deck rotates through all 64, so two matching cards showing up at one party is rarer than a silent-era star saying nice things about the talkies.

Fine print (the friendly kind)

Are all the cards different?

Yes. Each card is a seeded shuffle of the 64-trope deck, so every deal produces a distinct grid: no two guests get the same board. Directors get their cut; you get yours.

Do these work for any award show?

They do. The tropes are ceremony-agnostic, because the ritual is the ritual: envelopes open, speeches run long, the orchestra wins every negotiation. For decks tuned to a specific broadcast, grab a show edition below.
