Why this exists

Every awards watch party used to have the same fourth-quarter collapse: paper ballots on the coffee table, somebody’s cousin appointed scorekeeper, and then (during the commercial break, salsa on the tally sheet) the math falls apart. Who had the directing race? Did we count the one that got played off? By the final envelope the scorekeeper is doing forensic accounting while the credits roll, like the end of a heist movie where the crew realizes nobody actually grabbed the money.

That’s a solved problem. Computers are extremely good at adding small numbers quickly. Envelope keeps everything people love about the ritual (sealed picks, loud opinions, one insufferable winner) and deletes the part where a human does arithmetic during a Sunday broadcast.

The free-tools philosophy

The printable ballots, bingo cards, and pool templates are free with no login and no paywall (printed ballots carry only a small “Made with envelope” credit) and they stay that way. If you take a printable and never touch the live pool, wonderful. The paper loyalists deserve nice things too. The idea is simple: make the free stuff genuinely good, and some fraction of you will eventually want the version with the live leaderboard. That’s the whole business model. And to be clear about the other kind of money: Envelope doesn’t collect, hold, or move a cent. It’s a scoreboard, not a cashier. What your pool plays for is between you and your friends; house rule here is that the winner picks the next movie night.

The fine print on names

Envelope is not affiliated with or endorsed by any awards academy or broadcaster. Award names appear here descriptively (the way a TV listing names the show it’s listing) so your pool knows which ceremony it’s predicting. The academies do the glamorous part; we just keep score in the living room.
